Young man hit by car on M8 in Glasgow rushed to hospital in serious condition as cops launch probe

A young man has been badly injured after being knocked down by a car during morning rush hour on the M8 in Glasgow. The 22-year-old was struck by a red Toyota that was travelling eastbound, near Junction 24, Helen Street, at around 8.20am on Thursday.

He was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment, with medics describing his condition as “serious”. The driver of the motor, 51, was uninjured and did not require medical treatment.

The busy section of the motorway was closed for a short time to allow for accident investigation work by police officers. Members of the public who may have witnessed the incident or who have dashcam footage are being asked to contact investigators.

Sergeant Ryan McAuley, of the Road Policing Unit, said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances surrounding this incident.

"I would appeal to any witnesses or anyone with information who has not yet spoken to officers to contact 101 quoting reference 0557 of 12 July.

“I would also like to thank the public for their patience while officers dealt with this incident."
