Young man dies in horror level crossing crash in Wexford as gardai give details

A young man has died in a single-vehicle crash at a level crossing in Wexford.

It happened at the level crossing in Mayglass at around 10.25pm on Friday.

Gardai and emergency services attended the scene, where the driver and only person in the vehicle was pronounced dead. He was aged in his 20s.

The scene was preserved for a technical examination by Forensic Collision Investigators but has since reopened.

Gardai have launched an appeal for witnesses to contact them.

A spokesperson said: “Gardai are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision in County Wexford, on Friday 2nd September 2022.

“At approximately 10:25pm, gardai and emergency services were alerted to a single vehicle collision involving a car that occurred at the level crossing, Mayglass, Co. Wexford.

“The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, a man in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The scene was preserved to allow for a technical examination to be conducted by Forensic Collision Investigators that has since concluded. The road has since reopened.

“Gardai are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to come forward. They are also appealing to road users who were travelling in the Mayglass area between 10:15pm and 10:45pm with camera footage (including dash cam), to make it available to them.”
