Young man dies in horror crash on Dundee road after car and lorry collide

A 27-year-old man has died after a collision involving his hatchback car and a heavy goods vehicle.

Police were called to the scene on the A90 eastbound carriageway near Inchture, between Dundee and Perth, at around 2.15pm on Thursday January 20.

The victim died at the scene following the crash, which involved his white Citroen C1 - in which he was the sole occupant - and the HGV.

Formal identification is yet to take place but his next of kin have been informed.

The lorry driver was uninjured.

The crash closed one lane of the carriageway for several hours while investigations took place.

Tributes are now pouring in for the young victim online.

One woman said: "I passed this on the way home and looked awful.

"I had honestly thought the people standing at the side of the road were from the car - [they were] obviously from the lorry.

"Rip x."

Another added: "Absolutely heartbreaking poor man. Ma thoughts r with his family nd friends.

"R.l.P fly high with the angels."

Officers are now appealing for eyewitnesses in order to ascertain the exact circumstances of the fatal smash.

Inspector Greg Burns, of Dundee's Road Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with family and friends of the man who died. We are carrying out enquiries to establish the full circumstances of what happened.

“I would ask anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or who may have dash-cam footage to contact us as soon as possible.

“Lane one of the eastbound carriageway was closed for a number of hours and I would like to thank motorists for their patience while we carried out our investigation into this serious collision."

“Anyone with information should call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1725 of 20 January, 2022.”
