A tragic kayaking accident led to a young man’s death on an Ayrshire loch after a boat ‘capsized’ on a camping trip.
Tributes have been paid to Scott Ferries who died after getting into difficulty in Loch Doon on Sunday.
Scott’s dad James Ferries confirmed to Ayrshire Live that his son died after a kayak carrying two people capsized in the water.
The 24-year-old was out with a friend on the water when disaster struck at the Dalmellington beauty spot around 1.15pm.
Mercy crews rushed to the scene but sadly Scott was pronounced dead at the scene.
Another man was checked over by paramedics but did not require further medical treatment.
Heartbroken friends and family have paid tribute to Scott originally from Kilmarnock but was staying in Ayr.
The popular mechanic and former Auchinleck Academy pupil has been described as a “lovely lad”.
Scott’s devastated dad James posted an emotional message on Facebook, leading to an outpour of tributes.
James said: “Now the family knows my baby boy Scott has passed away today while enjoying life, up camping and kayaking with his roxy and friends. Love you baby boy gbnf.”
Shocked loved ones commented on the post paying tribute to Scott who has been hailed as 'one in a million'.
A relative commented "Love you bro, till we meet again. Now you're higher than you could ever be down here."
Another post read: "Rest in paradise you amazing laddie! You were loved by everyone! Get the drifts going bud and keep us all safe we love you bro."
Another person posted: “Rip Scott Ferries! A great mechanic and a great person. Absolutely devastated for you and your family.”
Scott is the youngest of five, with three older brothers James Junior, Kyle and John and older sister Angela.
Dad James has told how his “wonderful son”, lived for his family, friends and dog Roxy and loved spending time outdoors as well as being a handy mechanic in the family business, Somerset garage in Ayr.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers received reports of two men in difficulty in the water at Loch Doon, Dalmellington, around 1.15pm on Sunday, March 27.
"One man died at the scene. The other man was checked over by paramedics but did not require further medical treatment.
"A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal but there do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances."
Scott's death comes months after new safety measures were launched at the Ayrshire beauty spot.
A new rescue boat, a slipway for access to emergency vehicles and a pole measuring 17 metres were installed as part of action sparked by the death of another young lad Brandon Patton – who died in May 2019.
