Young man dead after motorcycle crash in Kingscourt, Co Cavan

A motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene of a single-vehicle road traffic collision in Cavan last night, as Gardai issue an appeal for information.

Emergency medical services and members of An Garda Siochana responded to reports of a motorcycle accident on the R165 at Cornakill, Kingscourt, Co Cavan at approximately 8pm on Wednesday night, when they discovered the body of a man in his 20s.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has since been transported to Cavan General Hospital for a full post-mortem.

The road remains closed in both directions this morning to allow for a full forensic examination, while Gardai have issued an appeal for witnesses, particularly those with dash-cam footage of the road between the hours of 6.30pm and 8.30pm on Wednesday night, to make it available.

A Garda spokesperson told The Irish Mirror: "Gardaí are currently at the scene of a fatal single vehicle road traffic collision involving a motorcycle that occurred at approximately 8pm on Wednesday 26th April 2023 on the R165 at Cornakill, Kingscourt, County Cavan.

"The motorcyclist, a man in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene. The body was taken to the morgue at Cavan General Hospital where a post-mortem examination will be conducted at a later date. No other injuries to persons was reported.

"The R165 at Cornakill in Kingscourt is currently closed in both directions and Forensic Collision Investigators will conduct an examination of the scene. Local diversions are in place."
