Young Lanarkshire author releases magical third book inspired by her family

An East Kilbride primary school pupil has continued her literary success with the release of her third book.

Long Calderwood Primary pupil, Sophie Bicker, began her writing journey during last year's lockdown with stories meant to entertain her family and bridge the physical gap between them.

But what started as family stories initiated by class work at home, has really take off for 10-year-old Sophie and co-author dad, Kenny.

And with the third book - Pee-Lee - released, a fourth one is also in development.

Proud dad, Kenny, from St Leonards, told Lanarkshire Live: "Sophie published and released her first book, called Sofo Rox, last year

"With COVID restrictions, and not being able to see our family, she made the the book about a magical land called Bourbonville, where all her family were together.

"Since then she has written a Christmas story, called the 'Nice List', which again was about having the family all together.

"And in the last few weeks she released her third book, called Pee-Lee.

"The book is about how her late granny brought everyone together to create the magical land of Bourbonville.

"Her granny sadly died before lockdown but she is referenced throughout the books although she doesn't appear as a character as such.

"Sophie has always been creative and loves making up stories and drawing, she even likes working with me when I am doing my wood work.

"And with this latest book she used an app on her iPad to do the illustrations. For the first book we got a company to do the drawings for it but it was really expensive, so this time round it's all Sophie's own drawings, which is lovely and they look really good.

"It all started with us sitting down when she had to do classwork at home and she had to write a paragraph or two about family members.

"She was struggling a wee bit so we came up with the solution of her making up a story, using family members to create characters and it just went from there.

"It was really a bit of fun to be shared with the family because we couldn't all be together but her grandad especially was really supportive and after a couple of stories we went to a publishing company who took them on.

"And Sophie always ends her books with a 'to be continued', so she has a plot in mind already for the fourth book."
