Young Lanark accordion player wins his first Mòd accolades

A talented young musician has won his first Mòd competition after overcoming a stomach bug on the morning of the contest to bring home the silverware.

Ten-year-old Alistair Adamson, of Lanark, won three trophies in the under 13s accordion competition at the AK Bell Library in Perth as part of this year’s Royal National Mòd.

The Forth Primary School pupil, who began playing the accordion four years ago aged just six, was up against five fellow accordion players at Soutar Theatre to take home the Gold badge as well as the Smith Mearns Trophy and Daniel G R Burt Memorial Trophy.

Alistair, who was struck down with a sickness bug earlier in the week, told Lanarkshire Live : “It was great to be playing live once again and a great experience.

"Although I was very nervous and didn’t think I would win because everyone was so good. I did my best and that’s all that matters.

“I am so proud of myself as are all my family. Big thanks go to my wonderful teacher Keith Dickson and my mum and dad.”

Alistair’s parents Stuart and Mary, said: “We are super proud of our wee boy.

"He was so poorly with a sickness bug we didn’t think he would make the competition let alone win it. He was determined not to let all his hard work go to waste.

"The expression on his face when he realised he had won was priceless.”

The Royal National Mod is a competitive festival owned and organised by An Comunn Gàidhealach, whose objective is to promote Gaelic language and culture through music, song, dance, drama, literature, and the arts.
