The road was then closed off as evidence was gathered, with CCTV taken from local businesses and witnesses spoken to, Cork Beo reports.

A spokesperson said: "Vancouver Police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run that killed a 24-year-old pedestrian late Sunday night, and ask anyone who saw the collision or has video to contact investigators.

"The victim and a friend were crossing West 4th Avenue at Arbutus Street around 11:30 p.m. when he was struck by a newer model grey sedan which appeared to be travelling at high speeds. The driver failed to stop and the victim died at the scene.

"VPD’s Collision Investigation Unit spent the night collecting evidence from the crime scene and have spoken to a number of witnesses. Anyone who has not yet come forward is asked to contact investigators right away.

"Police believe the vehicle was traveling east on 4th Avenue before the collision. Businesses in the area, or anyone with dash-cam video, is asked to review their footage and contact police if they have images of the suspect vehicle.

"Anyone with information is asked to call 604-717-3012."

The Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed they're aware of the case and are providing consular assistance.
