Young girl on paddleboard blown out to sea in terrifying Dublin incident

A young girl was rescued after her paddleboard got blown out to sea in north Co Dublin.

The girl was separated from her paddleboard during the course of the terrifying incident on Monday afternoon. A rescue chopper kept a close eye on the girl while a lifeboat was deployed.

The girl was starting to get tired and struggling to reach the lifeboat. Thankfully, one of the brave volunteers jumped into the water and swam to her to keep her afloat and bring her aboard the boat.

The girl who was "tired and cold" did not need any medical assistance. She was safely taken to her parents on shore. The lifeboat then retrieved the paddleboard and the leash, which had become separated from the board before returning to the station in Skerries.

Volunteer Lifeboat Press Officer for Skerries RNLI, Gerry Canning said: ‘Unfortunately we are seeing a rise in calls to paddleboards and kayaks. The breeze can take a person away from the shore quite quickly.

"Our advice is to always wear a lifejacket and carry a means of contacting the shore, even if you don’t intend on going far from the shore."
