Young fan 'too tired' to speak to Ally McCoist after sneaking into Darvel dressing room for cup celebrations

It’s the video everyone is talking about after the result everyone is still talking about.

Meet the young Darvel fan who captured stunning footage of the finest moment in his club’s history.

Logan Smith, 13, celebrated with the Darvel’s marvels after they knocked seven-time winners Aberdeen out of the Scottish Cup.

The Ayrshire side stunned the Scottish Premiership giants who sit 97 places ahead of them in the league pyramid.

Logan, who stays down the road in Newmilns joined a record crowd at Recreation Park last week as they basked in the biggest cup shock the country has ever witnessed.

The Loudon Academy pupil travelled to the neighbouring town with his dad, Grange Academy maths teacher Chris Smith, 32, at the fourth round tie in front of the BBC cameras.

And when the full time whilst sparked wild celebrations on and off the park, Logan and his pals seized a chance to party with their heroes.

The group boldly sneaked themselves into the changing room where match-winner Jordan Kirkpatrick and co belted out Cher’s hit Believe.

The moment was filmed by Logan who sent the video to dad Chris.

Within minutes the clip was shared on Twitter and within hours, broadcasters across the country were queuing up to speak to the pair.

First came 5Live and Colin Murray, then the phone was ringing in the morning with none other than Scottish legend Ally McCoist on the other end for his TalkSPORT show.

The whirlwind week saw the short clip go viral with the number of views rocketing past 670k.

Speaking to Ayrshire Live, Chris and Logan have told of the crazy response.

Chris said: “It has been absolutely mad.

“After we got home, I didn’t even know that Logan had been in the changing room.

“I thought I would just stick it on twitter, but the reaction has just been overwhelming.

“At first it was Radio5Live that got in touch.

“I nipped up the stairs and asked Logan if he wanted to be on the Radio.

“I got him out of his bed for the interview.”

Chris was then astonished to find that Super Ally wanted to speak to them live on his popular morning show alongside Laura Woods.

And he has hilariously revealed that Logan snubbed the Scotland legend because he was “too tired”.

Chris joked: “He didn’t even know who he was.

“TalkSPORT were asking if Laura Woods and Ally McCoist could phone and within minutes they were on the line.

“It was a huge moment for me, Ally McCoist is a legend of the game. It was surreal.

“But Logan had to search him on Wikipedia.

“We’re both Kilmarnock fans and we have season tickets for Rugby Park. Logan couldn’t believe it when he realised McCoist used to play for Killie. I think he regrets it now.”

Chris has told how Recreation Park was so packed that he struggled to get a glimpse of the game.

He added: “I’m just a wee midget guy, my brother-in-law in 6ft 7 in and he was struggling with my nephew on his shoulders.”

So with so more than 2,000 fans packed into the tiny ground how did Logan manage to do it?

“I just sneaked past this wee gate, whilst the players were walking through I just snuck in past two of their players," Logan explained.

He added: “We got in and everyone was singing so we just joined in. We went round all the players and shook their hand.”

Logan admits he’s a Darvel super-fan now and he’ll be cheering his cup heroes again in the next round when Falkirk come to town.

He added: “I think they can go through again. I’ll keep supporting them, I just hope they don’t meet Killie because I don’t know who I would support.”

Chris believes anything is possible after the Aberdeen shock and he wanted to add special praise to manager Kennedy’s rousing speech.

He added: “As a maths teacher I liked how he used maths to work out how many minutes the average man lives.

“I’d like to think Darvel’s win was inspired by maths.

“Here’s hoping we can get the numbers right again in the next round. Bring on Falkirk.”
