Young Edinburgh man rushed to hospital after street attack as police lock down road

A busy road in the north west of Edinburgh is currently closed due to an ongoing police investigation.

Part of Main Street, Davidson's Mains, is shut down as Police Scotland confirmed a 'serious assault' took place during the early hours of Friday morning, April 21.

A 20-year-old man has been rushed to hospital and officers remain at the scene to carry out investigations. Vehicles, including Lothian Bus services, have been diverted from the scene.

A brief statement has also been posted on Police Scotland's Edinburgh Facebook page, advising locals that the area is temporarily closed and finding an alternative route is advised.

They said: "Main Street, Edinburgh is currently closed due to an ongoing investigation. Please avoid the area."

The service 21 and 41 have have been diverted. A service update on the Lothian Buses website reads: "Due to a road closure buses are unable to serve Main Street Davidson's Mains and are instead diverted via Hillhouse Road in both directions until further notice.

"The service 21 will be diverted via Corbiehill Road in both directions until further notice."

Edinburgh Travel News have also updated motorists on Twitter as traffic has started to pile up in the area ahead of the morning rush hour.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 12.05am on Friday, 21 April, 2023, officers were called to a report of a serious assault on Main Street, Edinburgh.

"A 20-year-old man was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment. Enquiries are ongoing."
