A shooting victim has been identified as a young father who was gunned down nearby to his home, according to an online fundraiser launched in his memory. The man, aged 30, was named only by his nickname, Kazee, in the appeal.
Kazee was described as "lovely" and with a "heart of gold" in the tribute. He was said to have had a young daughter.
The victim was shot with another man in a car in Small Heath, Birmingham, at around midnight on July 7, Birmingham Live reports.
The wounded men made their own way to Heartlands Hospital where Kazee was given advanced life support in the hospital car park. However, he tragically died from his injuries.
Several tributes were left online to Kazee. One said: "Ameen, my condolences to you and family brother." Many simply wrote: "Ameen."
A GoFundMe page has also been set up to raise £5,000 for a 'well and charity' in his name.
The family of the dead man were being supported by specialist police officers. The second man, aged 24, remained in hospital but his injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
A police tent was pitched just outside the ambulance entrance at Heartlands A&E on Thursday morning. A third scene, a section of Ward End Park and Millthorpe Close in Ward End, remained sealed off while an intensive police continued.
A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: "Our investigations are in the very early stages but we believe the men were in a car on Eversley Road, Small Heath, when they were shot.
"Officers remain on Eversley Road and the car park of Heartlands hospital while we conduct forensic examination of the areas. We are also speaking to witnesses and reviewing CCTV. We also have officers carrying out enquiries on Millthorpe Close as part of the investigation."
