Young care worker 'loved by everyone' dies after falling from nightclub fire escape

A "caring" and "dedicated" young woman has died almost two weeks after falling from a fire escape at a nightclub.

Katie Davenport fell from the fire escape at Hey Amigos nightclub in Southport, Liverpool at around 2.55am on Sunday, September 4, with emergency services rushing to the scene after the incident.

The care home assistant, from Southport, was rushed to hospital where "she fought as hard as she could" before dying in hospital at The Walton Centre on Saturday, September 17.

Her sisters, Lianne and Cassie, have now paid tribute to the "work-driven" 23-year-old who was loved by everyone.

Lianne told the Liverpool ECHO : "She was the most gorgeous person and everyone loved her.

"No one ever said a bad thing about her. She was so work-driven and she loved her job.

"She gave everything to her job and she gave everything that she had to make sure the residents at the home were okay.

"She was never bothered about drinking and clubbing. It's destroyed us. Out of the three of us, she was the only one with her head screwed on."

Katie's family, including her five sisters and brother, are planning to do a balloon release where she last saw her niece, Ellie, and sister Cassie before her death.

Lianne said: "That one night has destroyed our lives and taken her away from us. We're trying to get as many people to gather on Princess Park tomorrow at 6pm as possible. Bring a green balloon.

"Her care home are also releasing 100 balloons from the Promenade so we're hoping to do it all at the same time."

Following the incident, a Merseyside Police spokesperson previously said: "We were called to reports over concern for safety at around 2.55am after a woman fell from a balcony.

"A woman in her 20s was taken to hospital where she is in a critical condition.

"Officers remain at the scene and we're not looking for anyone in connection to the incident."
