A young newlywed bride has tragically passed away from cystic fibrosis only six weeks from after tying the knot with the love of her life. Amy Weir, 25 and her husband, Martin, 35, knew that her lethal condition would sadly shorten her life but they didn't expect her death to come so soon.
Amy had been receiving cystic fibrosis treatment since she was 16 months old but there were no signs that the end of her life was approaching when she passed on September, 15, Birmingham Mail reports. The loved up couple met during the Coronavirus pandemic two years ago and hit it off straight away with their opposing love for Birmingham's rival football teams.
Amy was a Aston Villa season ticket holder and Martin, a Birmingham City fan, now asks Villa supporters to come together with a minute's applause to commemorate his late wife on the 25th minute of their home game against Chelsea on Sunday. He said: "We clicked straight away and didn't leave each other's side for two years.
''Losing her was a total shock to everyone and has hit me really hard; I just want to make her proud. We're trying to get a 25th-minute clap going for her at the Chelsea game.
''She loved Villa, and would love that. She deserves to be remembered always, in whatever way we can.
''We had great football banter. But I couldn't say much, really, because Villa are a bit better than us, unfortunately.
The couple married on August 3.
The Severn Trent drainage engineer said his wife, who worked as a BT customer consultant, was "so special" because "you knew exactly where you stood with her". Reminiscing about their special day, Martin said: "She looked stunning. Amy was shining.
''We danced the night away - our first song was Will Young's Evergreen. Her sister walked her down the aisle because their dad passed away when Amy was 18.
''A lot of people were crying - she looked amazing." Amy's family and friends have contacted a number of Villa footballers, including centre-back Tyrone Mings, asking for their help over the tribute.
They have also been using the hashtag '#ClapForAmy25' on social media.
