Young boy who disappeared while playing found dead in pond

A four-year-old boy has been found dead in a pond after disappearing when he had been out playing near his home.

Ifan Wedros Owen-Jones had been playing in a sand pit at the family home, but an alarm was raised when he could not be seen, it's understood.

A search of the grounds was carried out, but tragically the boy was discovered in a pond and declared dead a short time later, Birmingham Mail reports.

A fundraising page has set up to help with funeral costs. It says the tot "loved fire trucks and the colour blue".

Ifan he had two older brothers and a younger bother that "adored him", it's understood.

Speaking at the hearing, coroner’s officer Hayley Rogers said that police received a call from the Welsh Ambulance Service to attend the property at around 5.30pm on Sunday, August 7.

“It was established that Ifan had been heard playing in a sand pit close to the family home," she told the hearing.

"When Ifan could not be seen, a search of the grounds ensued and he was found unresponsive in a natural pond. Despite best efforts to resuscitate him, he was declared deceased at 8.40pm. Police have launched a full investigation, with ongoing enquiries.”

The boy's parents Sian and Wedros had their "lives changed forever", according to the GoFundMe.

A post read: “Thanks for all the support already given. We as a family are eternally thankful.”
