'You’ve got to' - Former Liverpool star issues £45m Sadio Mane contract demand

Liverpool have been told by a former player to do all they can to keep Sadio Mane at the club.

Mane’s future has been the subject of intense speculation in recent weeks, with a move away potentially on the cards. The 30-year-old is currently attracting interest from Bayern Munich, while Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have also been linked.

Reports over the past 24 hours have said that Bayern have made an offer worth £21million plus £4m in add-ons for Mane, with Liverpool swiftly rejecting the bid. Mane’s current deal is set to expire in 2023, and the Reds would look to command a significantly higher fee in order to consider business for the Senegalese international.

HAVE YOUR SAY: What do Liverpool need this summer?

Former Liverpool star Dean Saunders thinks that Mane does not wish to move away from Anfield. Saunders also believes that Liverpool should do what they can to get Mane to sign a contract extension.

“I don’t think he wants to leave, (he’s) just trying to get the best contract he can possibly get and threatening Liverpool,” Saunders told talkSPORT.

“I mean, £25m? Where’s that going to get you? Christmas party?

“I think you’ve got to give him the money, he’s too vital to the club, he’s arguably the best player in the world right now, him and Salah.

“If you give Mane £300,000-per-week, £15m a year, three-year contract, it’s £45m in wages you’re going to give him, how much is it going to cost to replace him?

“You’re going to have to pay £100m to get someone who gets 20 goals a season.”
