You Should Head To Fortnite's Polar Peak Dungeon To Watch The Snowfall Skin Emerge Today

Fortnite

You won’t see the event publicized on the news feed or anything that high profile, but the most interesting part of the otherwise dull Ice Storm event is about to come to fruition.

For over a week now, a giant block of ice has been melting in real-time to slowly reveal…something being chained up in the dungeon of Polar Peak, about three floors down from ground level. At first it seemed like it could be the world boss everyone has been talking about as a possible finale for the Ice Storm, but instead, it’s something that’s more…regular sized, instead.

Today marks the first time we’re getting a glimpse of what is under that ice, and almost everyone believes that what is being revealed here is the Snowfall Skin that you get for completing full weeks of challenges throughout season 7.

Fortnite

What we’re starting to see here is just an arm and a shoulder, and it appears to be something…not entirely human. The skin is grey with spikes on it, and it appears to be some sort of creature rather than some noble knight or hero the dastardly Ice King has imprisoned. Like The Visitor before him, it also seems likely that once he does emerge, he might be the one to save us from this icy hellscape because this snow covering the map can’t last forever.

It’s not clear whether the snowfall skin is a good guy, which is why he would be imprisoned by the evil Ice King, or whether he might…be an even bigger monster, and the Ice King has him on ice just because he’s that dangerous. He could emerge and be some sort of volcano monster that covers the map with lava or something instead, who knows. I mean, something is going to have to transform the map in season 8 in some way after all, right?

What I’m not clear about is if we’ve reached the “end” of the melting process for now. Logic would dictate that you might be able to sit around and see the skin revealed by the end of the day at the rate the ice is melting. And yet when leakers datamined what was under the ice, all they got was…this arm. So this might just turn out to be a solid object that is done melting for now, and may be halted until it’s time for the skin to actually go live in the game in a week or two.

Still, I am certainly going to keep an eye on it all day today to see if there’s further melting progress. Head down there and see this for yourself, as who knows how long he will be there before breaking out.

This marks the first time I’ve ever seen an NPC you can walk right up to in this game, even if it’s just his arm for now. The Ice King was in his ice bubble before the event started, but here, you can walk right up to the arm and if you’re mean, hack at it or shoot, which won’t actually do anything.
