A street on the Gateshead side of the Quayside resembled a canal after a pipe burst.
Water could be seen running down Bottle Bank, near the Hilton hotel, and towards River Beat on Sunday afternoon. It ran all the way down to Pipewellgate where it built up under the High Level Bridge.
Hills Street, which is near the bridge, was completely submerged in water. Station East, a pub located on the road, posted on social media: "We're open now but you might need your canoe."

Police closed off nearby roads while Northumbrian Water dealt with the burst. Residents in the area are understood to have lost their water supply following the incident, which occurred at 1.10pm.
A spokesperson for the water company said there was a burst on an 18-inch water main in Gateshead Town Centre and the incident was now under control.
They said: "At 1.10pm this afternoon, we were made aware of a burst on an 18-inch water main in Gateshead Town Centre and our teams attended very quickly and turned the water off in order to isolate the burst. There was limited impact on customers' water supply in the area and all supplies should now be back to normal.
"Our teams are now working to repair the pipe and then reinstate the area. The roads in the area that were initially closed and have now been reopened by Northumbria Police. We would like to thank customers for their patience and apologise for any inconvenience caused."
