‘You have to believe you are better than these teams’ - St Pat’s ace Anto Breslin

Anto Breslin had a summer to remember last year as Bohemians embarked on a six-game European adventure.

But having been snapped up by St Pat’s over the winter, he hopes to repeat the trick as a Saint.

And that mission starts tomorrow night when St Pat’s host Slovenian outfit Mura in the second qualifying round, first-leg of the Europa Conference League.

Mura will be formidable opponents having reached the Europa Conference League group stages last season and beat Tottenham 2-1 in a shock result.

But that was their only victory as they finished bottom of a group that also included Vitesse Arnhem and Rennes.

Before dropping into that competition, they were knocked out of the Champions League by Shamrock Rovers’ current opponents Ludogorets, 3-1 on aggregate.

And in the Europa League, they saw off Žalgiris of Lithuania before bowing out to Austria’s Sturm Graz in the playoffs, paving the way for that Conference League run.

Left-back Breslin said today: “We're not underestimating them at all, we know the standard we are playing at, it will be a really difficult game.

“But PAOK got to the quarter-finals of the Europa Conference League last year, the team we played against at Bohs, so you have to believe.”

Bohs beat Greek giants PAOK 2-1 at Aviva Stadium, only to bow out after a spirited 2-0 defeat away from home.

And Breslin added: “It was a good experience and we were fortunate enough to go through a few rounds. Hopefully we do the same this year.

“The goal is to get to the group stages, that's what everyone here wants and to go through a few rounds would be great.

“That’s what I found from last year, you can't have any doubts in your mind - you have to believe you are better than these teams.

“We're just as strong, we are as good technically, we are as organised as them, so we have to believe.”
