You could get a job at Buckingham Palace helping to run King Charles's diary

With coronation fever soon to sweep the nation, The Royal Household has advertised a new dream role on LinkedIn for a highly organised royal enthusiast: Assistant to the Diary Manager of King Charles III and the Queen Consort Camilla. Based at Buckingham Palace, the successful candidate will work within the Private Secretary’s Office, organising the official engagements of The King in a full-time role - from keeping track of all official invitations, through to ensuring they’re not royally ‘double-booked’.

The job is live on LinkedIn and the candidate will have exposure across the organisation, liaising at a senior level and deputising for the Diary Manager to The King when required LinkedIn’s Career Expert, Charlotte Davies said: “Spending your days organising the diaries of The King and Queen Consort - and getting paid for it - surely has to be the dream job for many royal enthusiasts. Now, for one person, it will become their reality.

“Working in the Private Secretary’s Office department, the Assistant to the Diary Manager will be responsible for organising The King’s official programmes, speeches, patronages and more. In this fast-paced environment, organisation, confidence and communication top The Household’s list of ‘must-have’ skills. If you’re thinking about putting yourself forward for the role, which is currently open on LinkedIn, make sure you spotlight in your application how, in previously held roles, you’ve been able to manage your time successfully and showcase examples of working well within a team.

“Here are four top tips to help you stand out from the crowd, which may well help you land your dream job - Royal or not.”

1. Utilise the 'About' section on your LinkedIn profile. Recent research revealed that 60% of UK professionals are looking to move jobs in 2023*, so it’s imperative that candidates use all of the tools at their disposal to stand out from the crowd. On LinkedIn, tailor the ‘About’ section to highlight any skills and experience you have that match what The Royal Household is looking for.

2. Keep your online profiles royally up-to-scratch. Employers often search for candidates online, so it’s important that your social media presence is updated. Even if you have limited previous work experience, make sure to update your LinkedIn profile with relevant skills, qualifications and passions that you’d want your prospective employer to see. Equally, don’t overlook your other public social channels either. Make sure there’s nothing visible publicly that you’d rather they didn’t find.

3. Confidence is key. These are unique roles, with a very high-profile boss. Very few applicants will have had direct experience working with royalty so if this sounds like your dream role, be confident in your abilities and put your best foot forward in the application.

4. Lean on your online community. Many members on LinkedIn have shared a wide variety of experiences when it comes to applying, interviewing and accepting new roles. Reach out to those in your LinkedIn community for their top tips on how to ace the application process; it's likely you’ll receive some brilliant pieces of advice along with some really helpful do’s and don'ts.
