You can win an epic hamster in the Star Wars-themed Overwatch 2 event

A new Overwatch 2 event is live, and it’s dripping with Star Wars references and a chance to earn some freebies – including a shiny new epic skin. This one is for Wrecking Ball, which is nice, considering the little rodent’s been almost completely absent from Blizzard’s new multiplayer game since it launched in October 2022.

The new Wrecking Ball skin might not be the fancy mythic skins you can customize, but at least it’s something for the poor little hamster. The new skin is themed after an asteroid, which is as cute as it is fitting.

As for the event itself, Starwatch is rife with so many Star Wars references and symbols that I’m surprised it isn’t an official partnership. You play as a band of rebels trying to rescue 3CH-O the droid or enforcers of the evil galactic empire trying to crush the rebellion. There’s a furry creature, a smuggler, space royalty, and nefarious generals, along with an event symbol that’s awfully close to the Age of Rebellion icon that stands for Star Wars’ rebel alliance.

Stellar trappings aside, Starwatch is a revamped version of the Lunar Colony assault map, with four control points, imperial turrets, gravity canisters that imitate Zarya’s ultimate, and a period where there’s no gravity at all. You can even revive downed teammates, assuming your team members remember they’re actually playing on a team and need to work together, which, in my experience so far, seems like a 50/50 chance.

Thankfully, you only need to clear five challenges to earn the Wrecking Ball skin, and they’re straightforward – jump in low gravity, blow up gravity canisters, and play matches. You don’t even have to win, so you should have your hamster space rock cosplay sorted in no time.

The Starwatch event runs through May 22, 20223.
