Christmas is just around the corner and if visiting Lapland isn't an option, families can visit Santa's reindeer right here in Scotland. Parents and children can enjoy the 'Christmas Experience' hosted by the Caingorm Reindeer Herd - Britain's only Reindeer reserve.
The seasonal event is the perfect alternative for those who can't take part in the standard Hill Trips, which grants punters access to a guided tour to view the reindeer at Glenmore Forest Park in Aviemore. As Scottish temperatures continue to plummet, families can instead opt for the festive event held at the park's paddocks, which is adorned in decorations and will host a Christmas quiz as well as a visit from Santa.
A statement on the Cairnrgorm Reindeer Herd website read: "On December weekends in the run up to Christmas, our paddocks are filled with tinsel and decorations, kids can complete a festive quiz (please bring a pen!), and Santa himself comes to visit. Santa can be seen in his special hut (occasionally he even has chocolates to hand out!).
"The paddocks are perfect for children and for visitors who are unable to go on the Hill Trip. They are wheelchair and pushchair accessible, and as well as being able to see the reindeer, there is lots of information about every aspect of reindeer and quizzes for children.
"This is the perfect alternative for those who can’t take part in our Hill Trips due to the weather or difficult terrain, offering a personal introduction to the reindeer in the more sheltered conditions in the glen."
While early booking is recommended, the good news is there are still tickets available nearly every day until Christmas Eve. Spaces are available this weekend, on December 17 and 18, but slots for December 19 and 20 are fully booked.
After that, bookings can also be made to visit on December 21-24. The Christmas fun is open from 10 am until 3pm daily. Ticket prices are £5 per person for adults, seniors, students and children aged 4-16, with those aged 0-3 free of charge.
