Studio Ghibli is now offering stunning artwork from a selection of its beloved animated films to use as digital wallpapers during video calls.
Notorious for keeping its glorious work mostly to itself, especially key art and distributing films, the studio is seemingly opening up; not only has Studio Ghibil recently allowed its films to be streamed by Netflix, it has now also released a series of official artwork wallpapers which are all free to download from its website.
According to the website, the studio decided to release the wallpapers and backgrounds at this specific time, as more people are social distancing and staying indoors due to the coronavirus.
To this end, the Japanese animation house says it wants these wallpapers to be used as background for video conference calls and chats, so the people you're talking to can feel like they've been spirited away to the enchanting world of Ghibli — which is something we could all do with right about now.
The available wallpapers feature gorgeous background scenes from the following eight Studio Ghibli films:
- Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind
- Laputa: Castle in the Sky
- Princess Mononoke
- Spirited Away
- The Tale of the Princess Kaguya
- Howl’s Moving Castle
- Ponyo
- The Secret World of Arrietty
The eight wallpapers were released on April 13 with the plan being to add more wallpapers in the future.
While they might be specifically for conference calls, they're big enough and excellent quality to be a wallpaper for your personal desktop or laptop. However, they cannot be used as backgrounds by people advertising companies or products.
You can find the page with the wallpapers here — so what are you waiting for?
