New Rivian EVs Have A Big Discount, But You'll Need A Gas Car To Get It

  • Rivian has discounts of up to $6,000 for inventory EVs.
  • Customers must submit a trade-in request for a gas or hybrid vehicle.
  • A trade-in is not required, though.

Rivian is offering discounts of up to $6,000 on some of its inventory vehicles. There is a catch though, in that you have to request a trade-in for your old gas car to get it. However, there's an interesting loophole in the offer. While you have to request the trade, you don't actually have to follow through if you want to keep your old car. The discount still applies either way.

The $6,000 discount isn't available for everything. The promo starts with the dual-motor 2025 Rivian R1T and R1S using the Max battery configuration, which is available for $3,000 off the sticker price. That translates to an MSRP of $86,900 for the R1S and $80,900 for the R1T, excluding shipping and taxes.

Moving up, there’s a $4,500 discount on Dual Motor EVs with the Max battery pack and the Performance Upgrade. In the case of the R1S, the price cut means the MSRP goes down to $90,400, while the R1T’s sticker is $84,400.

The $6,000 deal is offered for EVs with the Tri motor configuration and the Max battery pack. An R1S configured as such starts from $106,900 without the discount, while an R1T goes from $100,900. With the rather generous discount, the R1S Tri Max price goes down to $100,900, while the R1T Tri Max starts from $94,900 excluding shipping and taxes.

That’s still far from affordable, but it's still a discount and it helps cut the sticker shock since none of Rivian’s EVs currently qualify for the $7,500 federal tax credit. The offers are only available for inventory vehicles in the mentioned configurations. Rivian said that qualifying orders must be placed between January 21 and March 31, and that delivery must occur by March 31.

Only the aforementioned configurations are eligible for the discounts, meaning that Dual Standard and Dual Large models do not qualify. Custom builds, demo vehicles and pre-owned vehicles are also not eligible.

As spotted by RivianTrackr, the offer is open to residents of the United States and Canada who get a trade-in estimate from Rivian for a hybrid or pure internal combustion vehicle. That said, you don’t have to trade-in a car to get the discounts, just an estimate is required.
