You can get brilliant pizza by a Welsh beach as you watch gorgeous sunsets

Now that summer is well and truly here, days off at one of Wales' many beautiful beaches are becoming a regular occurrence. And what better way to improve such an occasion than by tucking in to a lush, cheesy, doughy delight from one of Wales' most-loved pizzerias as the sun is setting.

Dusty's Pizzeria in Cardiff was a popular haunt for many in the area - and further afield - and it came as a devastating blow for fans after the owners Phill and Deb Lewis - who also head up Michelin Guide restaurant Nook and sustainable eatery Kindle - announced the restaurant's shock closure in December 2022 as a result of significant losses, rising costs and debt.

But now, it's back with a vengeance and this time, sharing award-winning pizzas with beach-goers at Southerndown - otherwise known as Dunraven Bay. Announcing the news, Dusty's took to social media to share that they would be relaunching Dusty's at The Three Golden Cups at Southerndown, Bridgend, in a brand new pizza shack.

The Instagram post said: "If you go down to the beach today you’re sure in for a big surprise. After a long ass hiatus DUSTY’S BE BACK. The beautiful people @threegoldencupssoutherndown have created the perfect pizza shack for us...

"Serving from the shack to peeps in the pub, to the on site campsite, beach goers & anyone in between! Pick up a pizza on your way to the beach, on the way back from the beach, on the way home to the Mr or Mrs………or just for you cos it’s been a while!

"We are kicking off what we think will be the start of something wonderful the only way we know how……with PIZZA."

While no menu for the shack has been set yet, its Instagram confirms, the pizzeria is encouraging people to come down, grab and pint and enjoy the goods on offer that night.

Deb and Phill Lewis' pizza journey began in 2014 in Cardiff from the back of a van before it landed a permanent home in Canton's The Bone Yard. Since, it launched other branches in Swansea and Barry - however, over the years, the tightening of purse strings led to them being forced to close. In 2022, it was also named as Pizza Restaurant of the Year at the The Welsh Restaurant Awards 2022., just one month before it closed its flagship Paper Mill Road location. Read more on that here.

Now Dusty's is back, pizza lovers from all over the country are ecstatic to once again have the means to enjoy its goods, with many flooding the pizzeria's comments with messages of joy.

One Instagram user, Harriet England, wrote: "Amazing news!!!! Congrats - we’ll be there", while @msmmevans commented: "Best news ever!!! The best pizza around, the Vale has missed you soooo much."

Bradley, The Hangry Bear, added: "God I've missed your pizza" alongside Visit The Vale, who said: "Love this. Can't wait to come on down for this."

Dusty's' pizza shack at Southerndown is open Wednesday and Thursday between 5pm and 10pm and Saturday and Sunday between 12pm and 10pm.

And although at the moment the pizza shack is Dusty's current home, in February of this year, it was reported that the couple's pizza parlour had had an application approved by Cardiff Council for a new premises to open on the site of a former shop on Llangranog Road - an application showed plans to convert the ground floor of the currently vacant space into a food and drink unit - read more on that here. While it's not been confirmed, all we can say is watch this space...
