You can own a section of the original track of Wales' most iconic wooden rollercoaster complete with nails, bolts and saw marks. Oakwood Theme Park in Pembrokeshire is currently giving Megafobia a $2million overhaul ahead of the 2023 season and is replacing parts of the track and making the first drop even steeper. The work - being carried out by American rollercoaster design and construction company The Gravity Group - has so far involved the complete removal of the main drop track, walk boards and ledgers (these are the big timbers that the track sits on).
Some of the support columns have also been removed and will be replaced for new, albeit at different sizes and heights to allow for the reprofiled and steeper drop, Oakwood said.

The new track is being made in Cincinnati, Ohio, and will be shipped to the UK this spring. But two sections of Megafobia's original track are being auctioned off to raise money for two Welsh charities. It you're a rollercoaster fanatic or you have particularly fond memories of the ride, you could have your very own section of Megafobia in your bedroom, lounge or garden.
Oakwood said: "Each section comes from left hand track at the mid drop point, and includes the full track stack of eight timber layers, track running steel and side steel and comes complete with nails, bolts and saw marks." Oakwood Theme Park said it will match the winning bid of each piece, up to a maximum of £500 per piece.
Each section - weighing between 50-60kg - will raise money for the Wales Air Ambulance and Greenacres Rescue. Bids are being taken on eBay until Friday, February 24. Winning bidders will be contacted at the close of auction and will have the opportunity to tour the Megafobia works upon collection of their track piece.
The coaster renovation project will see work carried out on approximately 40% of Megafobia. The park said it expects works to be completed in early May, although this remains reliant on the delivery of materials from both Europe and the USA, which is being both shipped and flown into the UK.
The Roller Coaster Club of Great Britain said: "The fantastic work being carried out on Megafobia will ensure that it is not only as good as new, but even better than when it opened in 1996. The re-tracking work using the latest on wooden coaster technology will make this classic ride more exciting and thrilling than ever."
