Wales has achieved its first-ever two Michelin star restaurant in this year's prestigious guide.
Ynyshir, near Machynlleth, has possessed one Michelin star for the past eight years and is now breaking new Welsh ground with its second, one of only five new venues in the UK to achieve two stars for 2022.
Run by Co Durham chef Gareth Ward since 2013, Ynyshir is a true destination restaurant for foodies who are prepared to splash out for the best ingredients, with their 30-course taster menu which takes up to four or five hours to enjoy.

Announcing the new stars during an online ceremony, The Michelin Guide said that Ynyshir snagged the two stars for its 'unique, immersive dining experience'.
In 2017, WalesOnline visited Ynyshir and spoke to Gareth who has totally refurbed the kitchen, described by the chef as the 'Premier League' of kitchens, and specialises in a "fat-fuelled" and "meat-obsessed" menu.
The dining experience is interactive as you can touch and ask about the ingredients while watching them being cooked over the fire and depending on which experience you pick, Ffwrnais Kitchen or The Pass Bench, you will be given two chefs to look after you or it's cooked by Gareth himself.
Lunch or dinner costs £350 per person at Ynyshir and if you'd like to stay in one of their rooms it's £495.
It's been a great week for the Ynyshir family, with their former sous-chef, Nathan Davies, picking up a Michelin star and Michelin award for Best New Restaurant for his SY23 venue in Aberystwyth. Nathan is also appearing on the current series of Great British Menu.
As well as now being two-star Michelin rated, Ynyshir has accolades and awards coming out of their eyeballs, with five AA Rosettes and named best restaurant in Wales according to the 2021 National Restaurant Awards (15th in the UK overall). Gareth was also named chef of the year in 2019 by the Good Food Guide.
