If you thought Sydney’s transport issues couldn’t get any worse, I’ve got some bad news for you — yet another Sydney rail line will be closed due to the ongoing works on building the city’s metro line and updates to the existing rail line.
The T6 Lidcombe and Bankstown line will be shut between April 27 and June 29, with free replacement buses running instead.

As it stands, the T6 line runs from Lidcombe, Berala, Regents Park, Birrong, Yagoona and Bankstown. It was created following the shutdown of the T3 Bankstown line and now carries approximately 11,000 passengers per day.
According to Transport NSW, the upgrades will future-proof the train line as well as get it set up for the metro expansion with works including platform extensions to enable eight-carriage trains rather than the four-carriage trains currently running.
“These important works will allow all Sydney Trains fleet to access Bankstown station and provide additional capacity for future service growth on the T6 Bankstown line,” Transport for NSW said, per the Sydney Morning Herald.
“We know this will be disruptive for passengers and the community that relies on the T6 line, and we apologise for the inconvenience.”
Punters travelling from Lidcombe to the city or inner west can use the T1 Western Line, T2 Inner West Line or the T3 Liverpool via Regents Park Line
However, Yagoona, Birrong and Bankstown stations will be completely closed during the works. Free bus options will be available instead.
Between the Rail, Train and Bus Union strikes and the scheduled train maintenance, Sydney has been in a bit of a rough spot with its transport.
Thankfully, the industrial action by the union has been put on pause until July 1 while the NSW government and the rail workers attempt to resolve the pay dispute.
Now, we just have to stick it out until the works are completed, the metro expands, trains improve, and Sydney’s transport runs better than ever.
Can you tell I’m an optimist? God speed, everyone!!!
