Yet another sports car driver reported after loudly 'revving' engine along Deansgate

Yet another driver was reported by police after they were caught 'revving' the engine to their sports car along Deansgate. Officers spotted the black Audi R8 'messing about' and driving 'antisocially' in Manchester.

Sharing pictures of the vehicle, Greater Manchester Police's city centre division said the car was seized by transport officers and the driver was issued with a ticket after loudly revving their engine in front of officers.

It comes just weeks after local city councillors condemned 'man boy racers' who regularly cause noise chaos along Deansgate and adjoining Peter Street on weekends.

City centre spokesperson councillor Pat Karney previously called on specialist noise detecting traffic cameras to be introduced in Manchester to tackle the problem and catch motorists - as the trials were rolled out elsewhere, such as in Bristol, Birmingham and Bradford.

He told of how those living in city centre apartments close to Deansgate were constantly disturbed by the noise, particularly on weekends and in the early hours, and that their 'lives are being made into a misery' by the 'absolute idiots'.

Coun Karney said: "For people who live in the area, they are plagued by supercars racing up and down Deansgate, Peter Street and Quay Street. They go around at 2 or 3 in the morning, particularly on weekends.

"They think they can't be caught and play cat and mouse with the police. They think they are untouchable in these cars.

"It causes crippling loudness. The noise that comes from the exhausts is just unbelievable and it is day and night. They find a good stretch of road and just use it as a racetrack."

Sharing the picture of the black Audi R8, which had been pulled over by officers earlier this week, police said the driver had been handed a ticket and that the car had been seized.

On Thursday (December 8), police wrote: "GrrR8 seizure by #TransportUnit officers in the the City the other night as officers seized this Audi R8 for driving anti socially in front of officers, revving the engine and messing about. The driver was issued with a ticket for due care."
