Yet another potential Newcastle United transfer twist as Diego Carlos takes to social media again

Diego Carlos appears to have laughed off reports declaring he will remain at Sevilla amid transfer interest from Newcastle United.

The Brazil international has been one of the Magpies' priority defensive targets in the January window, along with Lille centre-back Sven Botman.

Newcastle's pursuit of the Netherlands under-21 international has seemingly been shelved due to the Ligue 1 champions' refusal to do business.

Speculation in recent days indicated the Magpies were closing in on a deal for Carlos, with claims the 28-year-old is in favour of a St James' Park switch and had handed in a transfer request.

The defender was selected and played the entirety of Sevilla's 1-1 draw at Valencia on Wednesday night, having given boss Julen Lopetegui his word that he wouldn't attempt to force a move through.

Spanish outlet El Chiringuito TV carried a report in the early hours of Thursday morning of a brief video interview with Carlos, where the centre-back seemed to dismiss talk of a move by claiming "I have a lot of time left here".

It was a response which inevitably led to Newcastle fans fearing the prospective transfer had broken down, and the Daily Express now claim the Magpies are considering 'abandoning' their pursuit over 'mixed signals'

However, Carlos has again taken to social media and shared his response to the report from El Chiringuito TV, providing yet another twist in Newcastle's latest transfer saga.

The use of emojis including the facepalm, the zipped face and several laughing faces suggest the potential deal for the defender may not be dead just yet.
