Yet another Broncos coach is a candidate to leave in 2025

The interview requests are piling up for members of Sean Payton’s coaching staff.

The latest Denver Broncos coach to interview for a job elsewhere is assistant special teams coach Chris Banjo. The San Francisco 49ers recently interviewed Banjo for their open special teams coordinator position, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

Banjo, 34, was a safety and special teams ace in the NFL from 2013-2022. When the Broncos hired Payton as their head coach in 2023, he brought in Banjo as a special teams assistant under coordinator Ben Kotwica.

In addition to Banjo, at least three other members of Denver’s coaching staff and front office are also candidates for promotions with other clubs in 2025.

Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph is a candidate for the New York Jets and Las Vegas Raiders head coach openings, with more interviews potentially on deck. Denver senior personnel executive David Shaw is also a candidate for the Chicago Bears’ head coach job.

Meanwhile, Broncos assistant general manager Darren Mougey is a candidate for the Jets’ GM position. Denver quarterbacks coach Davis Webb and defensive backs coach Jim Leonhard are also names to watch this offseason.

Payton might have to fill some positions ahead of the 2025 season. It’s a good problem to have after building a successful staff in Denver.
