Yes shop in Dunoon set to temporarily close ahead of move

A YES shop in Dunoon is set to temporarily close and move to a new location.

The Yes Cowal Forward Shop opened in 2014 following the Scottish independence referendum and has welcomed many visitors from around the world ever since.

Councillor and shop director Gordon Blair became well-known for highlighting facts and figures relating to an independent Scotland in Europe on a large screen which has been popular with passing shoppers and visitors.

Blair said: “It’s really important to ensure the information is openly available to the people and what better way to do so than in Argyll Street in Dunoon.

“All of the facts have been independently fact checked and indeed the majority are from Scottish and UK Government sources.”

The organisation – which has been based in Argyll Street - hopes to move into its new premises in time for the Cowal Gathering, set to take place from August 24 to 26.

Gordon added: “While we are sad to see the closure at this location as the independence hub in Cowal, we are delighted to be relaunching the Yes Cowal Forward Shop when we move to new premises later in the year.

“The dedicated financial support of our members and our retail section selling traditional Scottish goods in the shop, and now online, helps us disseminate the facts about independence and raise funds.

“During the summer we were delighted to welcome Green Party councillor Luna Martin to the shop.

“Our well-priced Saltires have been very popular with our rugby supporters, given we are selling them at four for £10.”
