New indyref campaign film showcases Inverness independence support

In the latest video, people explain they want independence for Scotland to strengthen democracy and see a better future

YES.SCOT, a campaigning arm of the SNP, has put out a new instalment of their film series “People of Yes”, showcasing a broad range of support for independence in Inverness.

This follows previous instalments of the series which saw the voices of independence supporters in Dundee and Glasgow

In the latest Inverness video, people explain they want independence for Scotland to strengthen democracy, have freedom to make choices autonomously, and see a better future for their community.

One participant said: “Democracy is important because it’s the voice of the people, and increasingly I think we live in a political system where people’s voices aren’t really being heard.”

Another participant said: “I think that when Scotland is free from the Westminster Government we can look forward to that freedom to make those choices ourselves. It’s our future and nobody else can decide that, so everybody needs to get involved with it.”

Scotland’s support for remaining in the European Union was cited as another reason by one participant, who said: “We’ve just this week past celebrated the 40-year anniversary of the opening of the Kessock Bridge, which wouldn’t have been built if it hadn’t been for the European Union.

“So much of our infrastructure here just wouldn’t exist if it hadn’t been for the European Union and the funding which came from that.”

Dundee-born Hollywood actor Brian Cox lent his voice for a voiceover at the close, where he said: “Pledge your support for Scottish independence at Yes.scot”.

In August, campaigners at an independence march and rally in Inverness cheered calls for the movement to “go forward as one”. The organisers, All Under One Banner (AUOB) said around 3000 people had taken part.
