The leader of Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthis, Abdul Malik al-Houthi, declared that his militant group would halt its attacks on Israel and cargo ships in the Red Sea, as long as the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas remains in place.
In a speech on Thursday, al-Houthi emphasized the importance of monitoring the implementation of the ceasefire deal. He warned that any Israeli aggression or violations would prompt the Houthis to provide military support to the Palestinian people.
The Houthi operations have included various tactics aimed at pressuring Israel and its allies. These tactics range from attacks on cargo ships in the Red Sea to occasional rocket and drone strikes targeting Israeli cities.
Despite Israel's advanced air defense systems successfully intercepting most Houthi missiles and drones, the group's assaults on cargo ships have disrupted shipping routes in the Red Sea. Some vessels have been forced to bypass the Suez Canal, opting for longer journeys around Africa to avoid the crisis zone.
In response to the Houthi attacks, Israel has conducted airstrikes in Yemen and issued threats against Houthi leaders as a form of retaliation.
The announcement of the ceasefire on attacks against Israel and cargo ships marks a significant development in the ongoing conflict in the region. It remains to be seen how the parties involved will uphold the terms of the agreement and whether it will lead to a lasting peace in the area.
