Member of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council Othman Mujalli held Iran responsible for the chaos, poverty and hunger suffered by his country as a result of the support it is providing to the Houthi militias.
Speaking at the United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries in Doha, he accused Tehran of sending “gifts of death” to Yemen in the shape of drones and ballistic missiles.
Yemen is enduring “extraordinary circumstances not because of a lack of resources, but due to the coup and war launched by the terrorist Houthi militias against the people.”
The Houthis, he added, are trained and funded by Iran.
Moreover, Mujalli spoke of the “terrorist and discriminatory movements that Iran has produced in Arab countries aimed at spreading chaos and controlling the region and its capabilities.”
The Yemeni delegation later withdrew from the conference hall when the Iranian delegate, Vice President for Executive Affairs Mohsen Mansouri, took the podium.
Mansouri was quick to refute Mujalli’s statements, saying they were “baseless” and an “unfortunate attempt to divert attention from the main agenda of the conference.”
Just last week the British navy announced that it had seized anti-tank missiles and fins for ballistic missile assemblies during a raid on a small boat heading from Iran likely to Yemen, the latest such seizure in the Gulf of Oman.
Meanwhile, Yemeni Ambassador to Qatar, Rajeh Badi underscored the importance of the Conference on the Least Developed Countries.
In remarks to Asharq Al-Awsat, he said Yemen has been devastated by the Houthis that caused the collapse of all its vital sectors.
He added that he was optimistic that the conference would come up with results that would bolster the international community’s contributions in least developed countries and help them meet their basic needs to ease their humanitarian suffering and stand on their feet.
