Yemen strongly condemned on Monday the Iran-backed Houthi militias for launching armed drones at Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, describing the development as an "unprecedented" escalation.

The systematic terrorist attacks and the deliberate targeting of civilians demonstrates the extent to which the Houthis have disregard to international humanitarian law and norms, said the Yemeni foreign ministry in a statement.

Monday's developments reflect the Houthis' turmoil as they incur successive losses in the fighting in Yemen as the national army and Giants Brigades, backed by the Saudi-led Arab coalition, make advances in the Marib and Shabwah provinces, it said.

It also cited international pressure against the Houthis after they "transformed ports and airports under their control into military bases from where they organize their terrorist operations and hijack trade ships, undermining international stability and security."

The foreign ministry reiterated Yemen's "firm and constant support to Saudi Arabia and the UAE and its support for all the measures they take to confront the heinous Houthi terrorist acts."
