Yellow weather warning in place for Scotland with 'heavy rain' expected

THE Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning with “heavy rain” expected across parts of Scotland this weekend.

The warning has been issued from 4am on Sunday September 24 and will last until 11.59pm.

Forecasters warned “persistent and heavy rain” is expected through Sunday leading to some flooded roads and a small chance of property flooding.

The warning covers parts of Argyll and Bute, Renfrewshire, Ayrshire, Lanarkshire, Angus, Stirling, Perth and Kinross and parts of west Aberdeenshire.

The Met Office added that delays and cancellations to rails services are possible with some disruption expected on roads with difficult driving conditions.

Strong winds are also expected to pick up throughout Sunday with speeds of between 50 and 60mph expected in coastal areas.

The forecast currently states that many places could receive 30 to 50mm of rain, however, “some places, most likely south-west facing hills, could see 80 to 120mm over the course of 24 to 36 hours”.
