Yellow weather warning as torrential rain and 80mph winds set to bash Scotland

The Met Office has issued a yellow rain warning for parts of southwest Scotland this evening- with the country to see 'danger to life' winds on Wednesday.

According to forecasters, a period of heavy rain is likely to start at 21.00pm on Tuesday and will last until 09.00am Wednesday before clearing to showers around mid morning. 20 mm of rain is mostly expected with a few spots, most likely across the hills to see 40 to 50 mm, This will likely result in some travel disruption.

Conditions are not likely to improve as the weather experts have issued a separate yellow wind warning for the entire country from Wednesday. There is a chance of a deep low pressure system bringing gusts of 70 to 80 mph to northern parts of the UK - which is set to begin from 00.00am on Tuesday and to last until 00.00am on Wednesday.

According to the Met Office, parts of the country should only see winds reach speeds between 55 to 65mph, most likely the northern Irish Sea and parts of eastern Scotland, bringing some more localised impacts. In addition, heavy rain may prove an additional hazard across northwestern areas.

Forecasters have pointed out that high winds will likely lead to various disruptions, injuries and possible damage to property.
