Yellow warning for thunder in Nottinghamshire as heavy rain causes flooding

Met Office forecasters have warned homes and businesses could be flooded as a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms in Nottinghamshire was announced. The warning covers large swathes of the country and is in place until 1pm on Thursday, October 20.

Storms could hit any part of the county, the forecaster has said, adding: "There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds. Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services."

The weather could also lead to difficult driving conditions and some flooding on roads. Nottinghamshire has been hit by spells of heavy rain throughout the day, with heavy rain due to continue until 3pm, but there will still be spells of light rain until 5pm.
