Manchester City legend Yaya Toure has given a rare insight into the special relationship he shares with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp but has revealed his feud with former boss Pep Guardiola is still rumbling on.
The Ivorian opened up on the bond he shares with his long-time rival Klopp but has revealed that he still has no contact with his former boss Guardiola.
Despite their rivalries in sport, where Toure spent eight years at Manchester City and accumulated three Premier League titles in the process, the two men are firm friends away from the competitive environment.
Toure was famously pictured with the Reds manager on his Instagram account when visiting the Liverpool pre-season training camp at Austria.
The two regularly keep in touch by text with one small pre-cursor. Toure told The Times: “Klopp, when he wins games, I text him and he is delighted and he always invites me (to meet him) and texts me back. Does this guy rest? I don’t think so, he loves football. He’s a top, top, guy.”
The two clubs are due to meet next month at the Etihad and looking ahead to the fixture, Toure believes that the title race is unpredictable due to the strength of the Reds.
He added: “Liverpool and City are separated by one point and they are going to fight until the end. I hope City will win it because I am City fan, but it’s so unpredictable and Liverpool are so, so strong”
Toure is attempting to make his way into management but he is yet to hear from his former boss, Guardiola, after offering an apology for comments he made about the Spaniard’s selection policies.
The Ivory Coast icon said: “I wish to see him. I will be delighted. I need to talk to people who have a passion for football. I haven't been in touch with him because I don't have his number.”
