Mark McGhee is trying to make former Arsenal striker Yaya Sanogo his first signing as Dundee boss.
The Dens Park side have made an offer to the ex-French under-21 cap who has been without a club since he left Huddersfield in the summer.
There is still a bit of a gap between both parties but Dundee are still hoping a deal can be sealed for the free agent.
The 29-year-old has had spells at Auxerre, Arsenal, Crystal Palace, Ajax, Charlton and Toulouse.
McGhee had said when he was unveiled that he wouldn’t be looking to add to his squad but has since changed his mind after assessing his squad.
The Dee are bottom of the table and face a fight for survival.
There was an angry reaction from fans following the heavy 4-0 defeat to Livingston in McGhee's first home game in charge.
They have a chance to put that right on Wednesday against Hibs.
