Yankees’ Jimmy Cordero Suspended for Season for Violating MLB’s Domestic Violence Policy

MLB announced Wednesday that Yankees relief pitcher Jimmy Cordero has been suspended for the rest of the season for violating the league’s joint domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse policy. Cordero will participate in a “confidential and comprehensive evaluation and treatment program” that will be supervised by the Joint Policy Board.

The details of the investigation are unknown at this time and Cordero has not addressed the decision as of yet. The Yankees, however, released a statement in support of the league’s move to suspend Cordero.

“The Yankees are fully supportive of Major League Baseball’s investigative process and the disciplinary action applied to Jimmy Cordero,” the statement read. “There is no justification for domestic violence, and we stand with the objectives, standards and enforcement of MLB’s Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy.”

Cordero, 31, played for the Nationals, Blue Jays and White Sox before he signed with the Yankees in 2021 on a minor league deal. He made the Opening Day roster at the start of this season and has appeared in 31 games, sporting a 3.86 ERA.
