You would think announcers would know by now.
With social media putting commentators in the spotlight like never before, fans are on high alert for any instance of “the announcer’s jinx.” Yankees announcer John Flaherty became the latest harbinger of doom Sunday afternoon as New York suffered a crushing 8–7 loss to the Rockies on infielder Alan Trejo’s walk-off home run.
“Trejo, 120 at-bats, does not have a home run this year…” Flaherty said before his sentence was interrupted by Trejo parking pitcher Ron Marinaccio’s 2–0 offering in the left field stands, “…until now!”

The game-winning bomb was Trejo’s sixth home run in three seasons and his first since going deep against the Giants on Sept. 28, 2022.
The loss punctuated a so-so first series for the Yankees out of the All-Star break, during which New York lost two of three and dropped into a tie for last place in the AL East.
