Yankees star Aaron Judge is expected to return to the lineup on Tuesday vs. the Athletics after missing the last nine games, New York general manager Aaron Boone said Sunday.
The reigning American League MVP was placed on the 10-day injured list after suffering a hip strain on April 27. Boone told media ahead of Sunday’s game that the team wanted Judge to be fully ready to return to avoid a potentially more severe injury. As of now, Judge seems to be doing “really well,” Boone said.
“I think we’re going to be in a good spot come Tuesday to where he’s done everything for several days,” Boone said, via ESPN. “That was the calculus in this weekend. It’s like, do we want to push him back out there if he’s 85, 90%. I wasn’t comfortable doing that just because I don’t want a strain to turn into a bad situation where we’re talking six, eight weeks.”
Before his injury, Judge was averaging .261/.352/.511 with six homers, 14 RBI and 18 runs in 26 games. The Yankees sit in last place in the AL East with an 18–16 record.
