Manchester City defender Yan Couto is on the verge of completing a move to Borussia Dortmund this week. The 22-year-old is expected to travel to Germany on Thursday to finalize an initial loan deal, with an obligation for a permanent transfer for a fee of €30 million ($32.4m) included in the agreement.
Couto, who joined City in 2020, has yet to make a competitive appearance for the club. However, he impressed during a loan spell at Girona last season, featuring 34 times in LaLiga as the Spanish side secured Champions League qualification. The Brazilian defender has also earned four caps for his national team since his international debut in 2023.
Meanwhile, Manchester City is preparing to introduce their new signing, Sávio, at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday. The 20-year-old winger, who played alongside Couto at Girona last season, is the only addition to Pep Guardiola's squad this summer.
City is also open to offers for midfielder Kalvin Phillips, who spent the latter part of last season on loan at West Ham. Phillips showcased his versatility during City's preseason tour of the United States, notably filling in at centre-back during the 2-2 draw with Barcelona in Orlando on Tuesday.
On the other hand, Barcelona is nearing an agreement to re-sign full-back João Cancelo. The 30-year-old, who is deemed surplus to requirements at City, has previously had loan spells at Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
