Rodriguez (16-4 MMA, 10-3 UFC) and Ortega (15-3 MMA, 7-3 UFC) first clashed in the headliner of UFC on ABC 3 in July 2022. Rodriguez won the bout in the first round after Ortega suffered a shoulder injury during a grappling exchange.
Rodriguez will compete for the first time since a title unification bout against Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 290. “El Pantera” claimed the interim title by submitting Josh Emmett at UFC 284.
Ortega has not competed since his first meeting against Rodriguez, which followed a title opportunity against Volkanovski at UFC 266 in Sept. 2021.
With the addition, the UFC Fight Night event on Feb. 24 includes:
- Brandon Moreno vs. Amir Albazi
- Yair Rodriguez vs. Brian Ortega
- Edgar Chairez vs. Daniel Lacerda
- Victor Altamarino vs. Felipe dos Santos
