Five full-lengths reach important and noteworthy milestones on the latest edition of the Billboard 200, and they’re all by either rappers or rockers…with two of them melding the genres into a signature style that has clearly resonated with millions of music lovers across America.
Here are five albums that made big moves on the Billboard 200 chart this week.
No. 41 – Post Malone – Beerbongs & Bentleys
Post Malone’s debut album Stoney made him one of the hottest new names in music, but his sophomore effort Beerbongs & Bentleys was what turned him into a consistent hitmaker and a household name. The title debuted at No. 1 and produced 14 top 40 hits on the Hot 100, including a pair of chart-toppers in “Rockstar” with 21 Savage and “Psycho” with Ty Dolla $ign. With that many beloved songs, is it any wonder the collection hits 150 weeks on the Billboard 200 this frame?
No. 74 – XXXTentacion – ?
It’s now been two and a half years since XXXTentacion was shot and killed at just 20, but his fans are keeping his memory alive by continuing to stream the music he made during his lifetime. The rapper’s second proper album ?, his first No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and the set that produced his sole No. 1 hit on the Hot 100 (“Sad!” went to the top after his murder) reaches three full years, or 156 weeks, on the all-genre albums ranking this frame.
No. 80 – Guns N’ Roses – Greatest Hits
Already the fifth-longest-charting album of all time, Guns N’ Roses’ Greatest Hits reaches another milestone this frame as it tacks on one more week to its already incredible winning streak. The title, which features essentially all of the band’s most beloved singles, hits 520 turns on the Billboard 200 this time around, or exactly 10 years. It is just the fifth release to make it to that mark, and there are a handful of others following closely behind that will repeat that success soon, such as Eminem’s Curtain Call: The Hits, which should make it to that mark next week.
No. 83 – Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers – Greatest Hits
Just like Guns N’ Roses, who also see their compilation reach a very special milestone this frame, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ Greatest Hits is a power seller that simply won’t stop performing well on the Billboard 200. This period, the title from one of the most beloved rock bands ever hits 400 weeks somewhere on the ranking of the most-consumed EPs and full-lengths in the U.S.
No. 120 – Drake – More Life
Last week, Drake’s album Nothing Was The Same reached a notable milestone, and this week, another one of his projects does the same…though it’s still far behind his sturdiest launches. His “playlist project” More Life is celebrating 200 frames on the Billboard 200 this time around, which is impressive for a set he didn’t even promote as a proper album (though it appeared to be just that, even if it was called by another name).
