Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi is set to launch a new electric vehicle, the SU7, on March 28 in China. This move marks Xiaomi's entry into the competitive Chinese EV market, posing a challenge to Tesla and other luxury EV brands.

The SU7 is positioned as a high-end electric car designed to rival the likes of Porsche and Tesla. Xiaomi's CEO Lei Jun has emphasized the goal of creating a vehicle that matches the performance of these established luxury brands. The electric car is equipped with a 'super electric motor' that promises impressive acceleration, surpassing both Porsche and Tesla models.

While specific pricing details are yet to be revealed, the SU7 boasts three electric motor options, with initial offerings including the V6 model generating 295 horsepower and the V6s model with a powerful 664 horsepower. Xiaomi plans to introduce an even more potent 'HyperEngine V8s' variant in the future.

The SU7 features a 101 KWh CATL cell that enables 800-volt fast charging, setting a new standard in EV charging technology. Xiaomi's collaboration with Chinese state-owned car maker BAIC Group will facilitate the production and distribution of the SU7 in the Chinese market.

Notably, the electric car shares an operating system with Xiaomi's popular devices, offering seamless integration for users. This unique feature is expected to appeal to consumers, especially amidst a slowdown in EV sales in China.

With a striking design available in Aqua Blue, Mineral Gray, and Verdant Green, the SU7 accelerates from 0-60 mph in under three seconds, showcasing its impressive performance capabilities. Xiaomi's foray into the EV market comes at a time when Tesla's Full Self-Driving system has faced challenges, potentially creating an opportunity for new competitors to emerge as leaders in driver-assist technology.
