Xiaomi Mi CC9, Mi CC9e launch commences: Live stream link, expected specs

The Xiaomi Mi CC9

Xiaomi has commenced the launch of its latest smartphone series in Chinese markets today—the Mi CC-series. The new series comprises two smartphones for the fashion-savvy youth, namely the Mi CC9 and Mi CC9e. The smartphones are the first Meitu-branded devices to be launched following the company's acquisition by Xiaomi in November last year.

The Xiaomi Mi CC9 and CC9e launch event went live at 4:30 pm IST on Weibo and Xiaomi's official website.

The CC9-series is expected to be priced anywhere between 1,599 Yuan (about 16,000) and 2,990 Yuan (about 30,000). Media reports suggest the smartphones would sport a trendy design and be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 7-series processors.

According to Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun, CC stands "Colorful & Creative" and the smartphones are being designed by a 'Chic & Cool' team comprising art students.'

Ahead of the launch, Xiaomi posted renders of the smartphone on Chinese social media website Weibo. Xiaomi also released a promo video for the CC9 line. The video is in Chinese, but essentially gives us an idea of what demographic Xiaomi is looking at with the launch of the devices.

Mi CC9

Reportedly, the Mi CC9 would run on Android Pie-based MIUI 10 software and feature a 6.39-inch full-HD AMOLED display. It is expected to be powered by Snapdragon 730 SoC and pack a 4,000mAh battery.

The device would pack a triple rear-camera setup with a 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor, a 16MP secondary lens and a 12MP third sensor, along with a 32MP selfie sensor.

Mi CC9e

The Mi CC9e is expected to sport a smaller 5.97-inch full-HD AMOLED display.

It would be powered by Snapdragon 710 SoC and pack 3,500mAh battery. The device is expected to include a 48MP Sony IMX582 sensor, 8MP secondary sensor and 5MP sensor camera setup along with 32MP front camera.

Media reports previously suggested the presence of a flip-up camera, like the Asus Zenfone 6 (Asus 6z), on the CC9. The smartphone was also expected to come with Meitu branding and pink accents.
