Xbox April console update: Game hubs, Discord sound effects, security controls and more

Xbox has released a software update for consoles and PC with handy new controls and features.

The additions include the ability to hear Discord sound effects when chatting to your pals, the ability to prevent unwanted players from installing games on your machine, and access to game hubs on PC.

Players will want to download the Xbox April update straightaway to take advantage of the new features. Here’s everything included in it, and details on how you can grab it if you don’t have automatic updates set up.

What’s included in the Xbox April software update?

The Xbox April software update arrived yesterday (April 10) for Xbox Series X and S consoles and the Xbox app on PC.

Consoles

Once you’ve installed it, your Discord voice calls will get a bit sillier thanks to support for soundboard audio on consoles. This is essentially what Discord, a chat app predominantly used by gamers, calls its sound effects. That drum rim shot you keep hearing after your best mate makes a joke, that’s a Discord soundboard.

If you find the quirky background audio distracting, you can turn it off via the Discord voice options.

Following the update, your Xbox console will now also offer a new restriction control for guest users. For those who already have an access pin set up, you can now block guests from installing or uninstalling games or apps to your device.

To view and adjust the new options, head to settings > system > access restrictions.

Xbox app on PC

The big feature for PC players is the ability to view game hubs inside the Xbox app – a perk that Xbox has been gradually expanding to users since February.

Now, everyone can view the info-filled game pages, with stats on things like play time, friends who play, add-on and DLC content, and more. Plus, you can check how long a game takes to compete, which sees Xbox compare your play time with that of other players.

In addition, game captures are making their return. As a result, now game clips and screenshots you’ve taken will be displayed in its respective game hub and locally stored on your PC.

Elsewhere, the “What’s Happening” section of the Game Pass tab has been tweaked to show you links to supported titles from Xbox Game Studios, EA Play, and Riot Games.

What size is the Xbox April software update?

The latest software update should only take a few minutes to install as the file size is a relatively lightweight 880mb.

You won’t be able to play any games while it downloads and you can expect your console to restart during the installation process.

If you’re wondering what the update is called, it goes by the title of OS version 10.0.25398.4086, which doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue.

How to download the Xbox April software update

Xbox consoles download software updates automatically by default. But, if this doesn’t happen straightaway, you can always head into your settings and do it yourself.

Just select “system,” then “updates,” and you should see the latest version at the top of the list.

Here, you can also turn automatic updates on or off by toggling the option that says “keep my console up to date”.
